If you’ve been holding out on a Meta Quest 3 upgrade and you were hoping for a discount before Christmas, your prayers have been answered. In a surprise move, Amazon has discounted both sizes of its new Meta Quest 3 headset in the UK.
The Quest 3 only launched in October, so besides $1 disparities at certain retailers, we haven’t seen any discounts on the new mixed reality device until now. Lucky for Christmas shoppers, the price of the 128GB SKU is now down to £444.98 reduced from £479.99, with the larger 512GB model going for £570 down from its £619 asking price.
Grabbing any of the best VR headsets on the cheap is a tough task since they all sit above the £500 mark, so we’re always prepared to shout from the rooftops if we spot a good deal. Since the Quest 3 only launched in October, a £35 / £49 discount is no short of a Christmas miracle, to be honest.
It’s worth noting that the sooner you jump on this deal, the better. Not that Amazon’s retail page details are always to be trusted, but the smaller SKU does have that red warning above the buying button that says “only 13 left in stock”. The smaller model still currently says it’ll arrive before Christmas if you order now, but we can’t guarantee either of those caveats will remain true for long.
The larger model’s stock seems to be holding at the moment but that version does say it’ll arrive after Christmas. Like I say, the sooner you order, the better.
Besides being an amazing Christmas gift for yourself or the special gamer in your life, the Meta Quest 3 is an excellent VR device. It stands out from the competition since it doesn’t need to be tethered to a PS5 or one of the best gaming PCs to work. It also has all the pedigree of the Meta Quest 2, which means it has access to hundreds upon hundreds of games.
When I reviewed the Meta Quest 3, I found that the biggest upgrades over the Quest 2 was in its excellent lenses, which feel like they increase the FOV over the Quest 2, and provide more clarity for a larger proportion of the LCD displays. Since this is a mixed-reality headset, the pass-through cameras are clear as day. So much so, that people in online groups I’m in keep posting videos of them cooking with the headset on.

But it does speak to the clarity of those passthrough cameras. That said, I would argue you can get better value in the VR market currently if you’re one of two people. Firstly, if you own a PS5, and you’re only looking for a device that’ll let you play VR games, I’d opt for a PSVR 2. It’s slightly cheaper, and you can fully integrate it into the gaming setup you have already.
Secondly, if you haven’t owned a VR headset before, I’d posit that the Meta Quest 2 is still worth buying. Yes, its hardware and specs are a little older, but it’s still a great device that’s proven popular for years now. If you aren’t worried about the best specs and you don’t honestly know if VR is for you, then maybe think about picking up a much cheaper Quest 2 this Christmas instead.
