PlayStation’s Head of Production, Connie Booth, Has Left The Company After 34 Years, Sony Confirms

PlayStation’s Head of Internal Studios, Connie Booth, has left the company after 34 hours, Sony has now confirmed.

Last week, former PlayStation designer and the creator of the original God of War, David Scott Jaffe, reported to have heard rather “frustrating” and “sad” news about PlayStation. He didn’t provide specifics, but by his wording, the news was related to layoffs at the company. After his initial tweets, the express Jaffe released a new video on YouTube in which he talked about the news he had heard. As per his sources, Connie Booth did not leave Sony of her own accord. Instead, Jaffe says that the long-time PlayStation veteran was fired due to the rumored cancellation of Naughty Dog’s Factions as well as internal turmoil over Sony’s GAAS direction. As also claimed by Jaffe in his video, the vast majority of people who worked under Booth have left PlayStation, and from the looks of it, these people left at the same time as she did.

As the above information wasn’t confirmed in any way (and large parts still aren’t), we’re kind of reluctant to report on this. Now, however, Sony has confirmed the departure of Booth through Axios’ Gaming newsletter (via Stephen Totilo). According to Totilo, Booth’s departure was announced by PlayStation Studio’s head Hermen Hulst through an internal email. “We’re thankful for Connie’s numerous contributions to the company and wish her the best in future endeavors”, Sony wrote.

We’ve included the time-stamped video from Jaffe from earlier this week below. Quite the news, and with Booth’s departure confirmed, it will be interesting to learn under which circumstances Booth left Sony. Did she leave voluntarily or was she indeed fired? What are your thoughts about this matter? What will this mean for Sony? Hit the comments below, but as always, play nicely.
