Producers of ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Discuss Potential Delay

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has emerged as one of the most successful films of the year, garnering immense love from audiences who can’t get enough of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and his transformative journey to becoming the hero Brooklyn desperately needs. However, the anticipated release date for the third installment of the series may no longer hold true. In an exclusive interview with ComicBook, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the producers behind the animated franchise, emphasized that their priority lies in crafting an exceptional story:

We are committed to taking the necessary time to ensure that “Beyond the Spider-Verse” is exceptional, and we won’t rush to meet a release date that doesn’t align with our artistic vision.

This aligns with previous reports stating that the sequel is not yet prepared to hit theaters as originally planned. Some of the artists involved in the creation of Across the Spider-Verse have expressed their dissatisfaction with the working conditions during the project, citing excessively long hours and immense pressure from the studio to meet the initial release date. In a recent report, an artist associated with one of this summer’s blockbuster movies assured fans that the third installment will not premiere in March due to the significant amount of work still required for its completion.

In Across the Spider-Verse, Miles has enjoyed his life as a superhero hidden behind the mask for quite some time. However, he still feels an underlying sense of loneliness and desires to share his thrilling adventures with Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), and the other Spider-People from various dimensions. When the villainous character known as The Spot (Jason Schwartzman) emerges in New York City, Miles’ wish may come true, albeit in the most challenging way. The villain’s improvised plan poses a grave threat to the entire multiverse, and Miles must stop him at all costs.

Miles’ Journey Comes to An End

While dealing with The Spot’s menacing threat is of utmost importance, it won’t be the sole challenge Miles faces when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse swings into theaters. Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) asserts that every Spider-Person must navigate predetermined points in time in order to maintain stability within the multiverse. These pivotal moments, known as “canon events,” leave the web-slingers with no choice but to confront painful losses, such as the death of a trusted police captain, or temporarily relinquish their alter egos. However, Miles may have the opportunity to defy O’Hara’s beliefs. As of now, Beyond the Spider-Verse is slated for release on March 29, 2024.
