Zoom users will soon be able to take video conferences using their smart display devices as the company has announced that they are planning to support more variety of devices by the end of this year. According to the blog post, Zoom for Home will be made available for a wide range of smart display devices including Amazon Echo Show, Portal by Facebook and Google Next Hub Max.
The service will be available publicly on Portal by Facebook in September, while Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub Max users will have to wait till the end of the year.
Although the Zoom video calling will work almost in a similar way as it works on other platforms and users will be able to take meetings with video and audio using these devices, all three companies have different ways of implementing the feature.
Zoom on Facebook Portal will use Portal’s smart camera technology to help keep people in frame for better video calls just like it does with Facebook Messenger video calls. The service will be available on Portal Mini, Portal, Portal+ with support for Portal TV in future.
Zoom on Amazon Echo Show will take advantage of Alexa’s AI capabilities. Users can simply ask Alexa to join their scheduled Zoom meeting and if the user has linked their calendar with the device, Alexa will automatically start the meeting entirely hands-free.
Zoom will be rolling out to Amazon Echo Show devices in the U.S. later this year, beginning with Echo Show 8.
Zoom on Google Nest Hub Max will arrive as a native app and it will take advantage of Google’s deep integration to calendars and Google Assistant. Users will be able to join the meeting by just saying Hey Google, join my next meeting.
