Google’s video streaming platform YouTube has been supporting picture-in-picture feature on Android for a while now and it seems that the feature is soon going to make its way to iPhones too.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple has enabled Picture-in-picture for iPhones this year with iOS 14 and now YouTube has started testing “the native picture-in-picture feature” on its iOS app.
The reports cites some Twitter users who have reported that the functionality has been spotted after the app was updated.
The report also adds that since YouTube restricts video playback in the background on iOS and only gives access to this feature YouTube Premium subscribers, therefore the picture-in-picture mode is also restricted to users who pay for premium YouTube features. As of now, there is no word if the picture-in-picture support will be rolled out to all users of the YouTube app on iOS.
Just last month, YouTube got support for the ‘smart replies’ feature. This feature was rolled out to creators to suggest what they should write back to those who comment on their videos. In addition to the standard YouTube platform, this feature has also been rolled out to YouTube Studio platform too.
While describing how smart replies work differently for YouTube than for emails, the blog post noted, “In comparison to emails, which tend to be long and dominated by formal language, YouTube comments reveal complex patterns of language switching, abbreviated words, slang, inconsistent usage of punctuation, and heavy utilization of emoji.”
