Playing a character with such a rich history, even just in the name, comes with an instant pressure that I didn’t experience with Elle. It was a completely mind-blowing experience when I got cast. I was so in the moment that I can’t fully relive it. At first, the show had a code name, and then I found out it was Doctor Who. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve just been cast in Doctor Who.’ It’s such a blessing to portray a trans character and to play a monumental character like Rose.
Rose, played by Billie Piper in the early seasons of the relaunch, holds a special place in the hearts of fans. When Doctor Who was revived by Russell T. Davies after a long hiatus, Christopher Eccleston took on the role of the Doctor. As is tradition, the Doctor needed a companion, and Rose crossed paths with the Time Lord on a fateful snowy night that altered the course of her life.
