Xiaomi’s New Patent Shows A Clamshell Folding Phone With Rotating Camera Module

While many companies had already launched their foldable smartphone or shown the prototype of their foldable phone, Xiaomi was still lagging in the race of foldable smartphone. But now, it looks like the company is also gearing up to build its foldable phone as a new Xiaomi patent has been discovered showing a clamshell folding phone with a rotating camera module.

This patent shows a sketch of the phone which looks similar to Motorola Razr or Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, but with an interesting twist. The phone seems to features a bar on the upper half, which can be physically rotated horizontally to turn the rear-facing cameras towards the front to be used for selfies. The render of the phone has been created by LetsGoDigital following the patent of the phone for a demonstration.

The upper half of the device has the power and volume keys on the right side. As well, we see a speaker grille that sits just below the part that rotates.

Well, following this patent, it doesn’t mean that it will turn out to a real device. Phone makers often patent hardware that will never make it to market. If there would be a device in the future that would be ideal for the market, then it might pursue the idea to produce and market a device.
