Xiaomi seems to be working on yet another mid-range smartphone with a new processor. A new smartphone codename “Valentino” surfaced on the benchmarking site Geekbench. Interestingly, the Xiaomi Valentino is powered by an unannounced Snapdragon 638 SoC which is said to be upgraded version of Snapdragon 636.
As per the listing, the Xiaomi Valentino runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and powered by the 1.44GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 638 octa-core processor. The listing further reveals the device has 6GB of RAM. It has managed to score 1485 points in the single-core test and 5440 points in the multi-core test. The multi-core score is slightly higher than the Redmi Note 5 Pro’s around 5000 score.
Sadly, the Geekbench listing doesn’t reveal any further specifications of the device. However, it is speculated that Snapdragon 638 is a higher-clocked version of the Snapdragon 636.
However, as of now, there is no device that is expected to launch from the company that would be powered by Snapdragon 638. Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi S2 in a few days which will be powered by the older Snapdragon 625 SoC. Moreover, the Mi 6X was launched with the Snapdragon 660. It will be interesting to see which handset ends up with the new processor.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is scheduled to launch its next budget smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 on May 10 in China. The smartphone runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. It sports a 5.99” HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone is powered by the 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU.
