Xiaomi has filed a new smartphone design patent with Chinese patent office CNIPA. For Xiaomi, this is completely a new design that can be used for better usage of waterfall displays on smartphones.
According to the report, this patent was filed by the company in September 2019 with the CNIPA, and later it was published on April 3 and now, it has been uploaded to the Global Design Database of the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO).
As mentioned above, this new patent from Xiaomi shows a smartphone using a waterfall display which covers around 60 percent of the sides of the phone. For those who don’t know, the waterfall display is basically a curved screen that covers some areas over the sides of the phone.
This patent was first cited by a Dutch website called LetsGoDigital. The website shows that the waterfall display on the patented Xiaomi phone falls back to a close to a 90-degree angle. As seen in the images, the two sides of the prototype model are seen to hold the navigation control and the status icons interface.
If we consider some other reports, some of them claim that this Xiaomi phone will sport an in-display front camera. Although these reports gave nothing promising to its claims, they were citing a 2019 prototype that the company showcased with an under-display front camera.
Well, this is really an interesting step from Xiaomi to use a waterfall display to offer optimal usage for users. Well, just like most of the patents, there is no guarantee that it will turn out to be real. So, we advise you to take this leak as a grain of salt. As soon as we get some more information on it, we will update you with the same.
