From the beginning, Xiaomi has been accused of copying Apple’s design and it seems like Xiaomi has nothing to do with these rumors as the company continues to bring products that look similar to Apple’s products. This time, Xiaomi has filed a patent for a new smart speaker that looks similar to that of Apple’s HomePod.
The patent has been published on the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) website and the included schematics for the smart speaker with a cylindrical design looks similar to the Apple HomePod.
The patent suggests that the final product will come with 360-degree sound output. It also suggests that this smart speaker will include a touch-sensitive surface area which will enable users to interact with the speaker in case of failure of voice command.
The top part of the speaker will come with a circular disc-like surface that could offer two things — Mini OLED display for showing connectivity status, volume, etc. or the earlier mentioned touch-sensitive surface for gesture-based controls. However, it’s still unknown which feature will Xiaomi use in the final product.
Well, on looking to the patent closely, it looks like the top part of the smart speaker will include a touch-sensitive surface for gesture-based controls as there are no other control options available throughout the patent design.
In terms of technology, the device can use the company’s own XiaoAI if this will be available only in China. Else, it can include Google Assistant or Alexa if the company plans to make it available globally. Well, that’s all upon the company which AI assistant it chooses at the end.
