The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has been relatively quiet since James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the initial lineup of projects for the overhauled franchise’s Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters. However, a recent development deserves attention. According to New York Women in Film and Television, Ana Nogueira has been signed to a deal with DC. The accomplished actress, playwright, and filmmaker, known for her work in The Blacklist, The Vampire Diaries, Blue Bloods, and short film We Win, “is currently working under an overall deal for DC writing some of their most secret and coveted projects.”
This news is significant, not only because of Nogueira’s impressive list of credits, but also because she is “the first writer to be put under contract at DC,” which suggests that more behind-the-scenes moves are happening with the DCEU than we realize. While casting is currently underway for Superman: Legacy, and James Mangold is set to direct Swamp Thing, all signs also point to Andy Muschietti rebooting Batman in The Brave and the Bold and the animated series Creature Commandos having its principal cast in place.
