Who’s News: Management Updates at Zurich Instruments, Oxford Quantum Circuits, Quantinuum, Phasecraft, and Quobly

Zurich Instruments has named Andrea Orzati as its new Chief Executive Officer. He succeeds company founder Sadik Hafizovic and will work to continue the company’s progress in scaling up. Previously, he was the Vice President Sales & Marketing and Executive Board Member of sensor company Sensiron where he spent 15 years. He also has prior experience at TEQABLE AG, u-blox, and ETH Zurich. A press release announcing his joining the company has been posted on Zurich Instrument’s web site here.

Oxford Quantum Circuits has named Gerald Mullaly as interim CEO succeeding Dr. Ilana Wisby who helped spin the business out from Oxford University and is now leaving the company. Mr. Mullaly has been the VP, Commercial and Partnerships Lead for OQC since he joined them in 2022. Before that, he served in the UK Minister’s Office & Cabinet Office for over eight years serving as a Director, Deputy Director, and Senior Advisor. Before that he had prior experience at PwC, the Irish Government, and Accenture. Mr. Mullaly will be focusing on progressing the company’s Series B fund raising and increasing the company’s commercial growth through strategic partnerships while the board conducts a search to hire a permanent CEO. Quantinuum has announced that Brian Sereda has joined the company as CFO. Mr. Sereda has over 30 years of experience in corporate finance with 15 years experience as a CFO. in his most recent position he served as CFO of Rigetti Computing and was involved with the SPAC merger at that company in 2021. Other companies where he held senior finance positions include Energous Corporation, ActiveVideo, Virage Logic, Proxim Wireless, and others. Mr. Sereda has considerable experience in IPOs, mergers and acquisition, fund raising, and other important financial management activities. Phasecraft has recruited Professor Steven Flammia to lead the company’s first office in Washington, DC. He has been the Director of Virginia Tech’s Center for Quantum Architecture and also had previous experience as a Principal Research Scientist at the AWS Center for Quantum Computing. He has over 20 years of experience in the quantum field at the University of Sydney, University of Washington, Caltech, and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. In his new role he will help the company deepen relationships with some of the leading quantum hardware companies as well as deepen access to leading quantum talent. Quobly, a French quantum startup, has named five members to join its Scientific Advisory Board. Bich-Yen Nguyen is a Senior Fellow at Soitec. Daniel Loss is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Min-Hsiu Hsieh is the Director of Hon Hai (Foxconn) Quantum Computing Research Center in Taiwan. Seigo Tarucha leads a Quantum Functional System research lab at RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science and a Semiconductor Quantum Information Device research lab at RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing. And Yasser Omar leads IST, U Lisbon’s Physics of Information and Quantum Technologies Group. These quantum technology experts will provide the company with insights to foster innovation and accelerate progress as the company works to commercialize its its silicon spin qubit-based quantum processor.
