When You Forget to Download a Playlist, Spotify is Here to Save the Day.

In a move that will please music-loving travelers, Spotify is reportedly developing a new playlist called Offline Mix that automatically downloads recently played songs to your device for listening when internet connectivity is spotty.

Daniel Ek, the CEO of Spotify, shared a screenshot of the upcoming Offline Mix playlist on Twitter without offering additional details about the feature. However, the image showed that users would be able to download hours of music onto their smartphones, with the service capable of storing up to three and a half hours of offline content.

While Spotify already allows users to download songs for offline listening, the new Offline Mix feature would remove the tedious task of manually selecting tracks one by one. The new feature is similar to YouTube Music’s smart downloads, which allows the app to “automatically download up to 500 songs” for offline listening.

At present, the exact details of Offline Mix remain unknown, including the number of tracks that users can download and whether a Spotify premium subscription is required. There have been reports from Twitter users claiming they have received the feature, but there has been no official confirmation from Spotify regarding any public tests.

Notably, Jane Manchun Wong, an industry insider, was among the first to mention Offline Mix in 2020 when it was called Offline User Mix. As of now, there is no official launch date for the feature.
