Whatsapp to cap the status video length to 15 seconds.

As the whole world is facing long term lockdown, the usage of the internet has seemingly increased. Whatsapp, the most used and favorite app of Indians, is to reduce the status video length to 15 seconds. The time length was 30 seconds before this.

This measure has been taken to handle network congestion due to the steep rise in the number of users. While YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Video, and Facebook have already cut down the quality of videos to support this increase in usage, Whatsapp is the latest to do the same to the Status section on its platform.

This change was first spotted by WABetaInfo and shared the update on Twitter. Although it seems to be a temporary measure to enable better network availability to the users, this change is gradually rolling out to its users; it doesn’t matter if you are using the Whatsapp Beta version or not. This change is expected to revert once the COVID-19 pandemic blows over.

Now, it’s unclear if only the first 15 seconds of the video will get trimmed. Instead, you can specify any specific 15 seconds of your video that can get posted as the status.

The move, although, seems to have been implemented only in India as of now. Whatsapp is yet to post an official announcement for the same.
