WhatsApp Tests New Feature That Lets You Add Contacts Via QR Codes

WhatsApp is adding a more convenient way to add contacts using QR codes. According to the latest report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s latest beta version lets you add contacts by scanning their QR codes.

This feature is available in beta on both iOS and Android. If you have the latest beta of WhatsApp, you can find this feature in the app’s settings menu, where there are options to display your own code, as well as to scan other people’s. WhatsApp also allows you to revoke the QR code you shared if you shared with someone who you don’t want to have your number.

WhatsApp Beta Contact Adding by QR code

As of now, WhatsApp only allows you to add contacts using your phone’s address book, which creates an annoying extra step when you just want to be able to message someone in WhatsApp itself. By adding QR codes to add contacts, it will be easier for users to add people to their contacts.

Although the feature is currently available in beta, there’s no word on when we might see it come to the main app. If you want to try this feature, join the beta on Android by following this link.
