Warning: Attempting this at home is highly discouraged as the durability test causes significant damage to Google’s Pixel Fold (video)

Google’s entry into the foldable phone market, the Pixel Fold, claims to have the “most durable hinge” among its competitors. However, renowned tech reviewer Zack Nelson, popularly known as “JerryRigEverything” on YouTube, puts this claim to the test in a new video.

Surprisingly, the Pixel Fold’s hinge proves to be strong enough to withstand daily use and even more. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the rest of the phone.

In a nutshell, the Pixel Fold is alarmingly easy to bend and completely destroy. This may not be a surprise considering the early reports of damage from reviewers and owners. It is worth noting that this is not a common issue with foldable devices, as Samsung has proven with their releases.

This is not an experimental product at the forefront of a new technology, and Google seems to have many structural issues to address.

However, the Pixel Fold is not entirely doomed. Understanding its vulnerabilities and treating it carefully can prevent issues. The phone’s dust resistance is impressive, although Google does not advertise it. The side-mounted fingerprint scanner is also scratch-resistant.

The cover screen and rear panel are protected by durable Gorilla Glass Victus, but the primary foldable display is made of cheap plastic and prone to damage from everyday objects.

Interestingly, the main screen does not handle heat well and may shut off in extreme temperatures. Additionally, the device can easily bend and stop functioning if not used with extreme caution. This is undoubtedly a significant problem for a smartphone priced at $1,800.
