Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Xbox Series S/X Launch Delayed Indefinitely to Bring Fixes for the PC Version

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has decided to indefinitely postpone its console release to prioritize fixing issues on the PC version. The Xbox Series S/X release was originally scheduled shortly after the PC launch in November, but no specific release information was provided prior to this announcement. Developer Fatshark has also delayed the promised seasonal content rollout for the game in order to address player feedback and improve various aspects such as the crafting system, progression loop, and PC performance. Although console players may be disappointed, this decision seems justified given the mixed reception of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide on Steam.

“At Fatshark, we take great pride in our ability to deliver a game that appeals to millions. This was our goal with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – to create an immersive and stable gaming experience with lasting depth,” explained Martin Wahlund, CEO, and co-founder of Fatshark in an open letter. “Unfortunately, we fell short of meeting those expectations.” In addition to delaying the Xbox Series S/X version, the developer will put a pause on the release of any premium cosmetics and instead focus solely on polishing the game. The decision was made to address player concerns before introducing new content.

Released in late November, Warhammer 40K Darktide appeared to have a bright future due to its intense combat and detailed environments. The game borrowed the successful four-player co-op formula from its fantasy predecessors Warhammer: Vermintide 1 and Vermintide 2, making it a logical choice to blend in 40K’s gunplay for even better results. Players are thrown into the grim hive city of Tertium to battle against the bloodthirsty Admonition cult, who seeks to control the planet Atoma Prime. Customization options include class, appearance, and gender, with a focus on the crafting system. Unfortunately, the crafting system left an incomplete impression, which is something Fatshark plans to rectify.

Not long ago, Fatshark released The Signal update, the first content drop for Darktide. This update introduced a new Comms-Plex 154/2f mission, two new weapons for the Zealots and Ogryns classes, and a highly requested feature – private sessions. It also included two new mission modifiers, with “Hunting Grounds” featuring an increased number of Pox Hounds, and Assault missions offering more ammo pickups but reduced healing capabilities.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is currently available for PC on Steam and PC Game Pass. The release date for the Xbox Series S/X version has been postponed indefinitely.
