Voice Messages: WhatsApp gets support for video messages

WhatsApp allows users to effortlessly send voice messages to individuals or group chats. This feature is particularly useful when conveying a lengthy message, as it saves time and effort compared to writing a long note. Now, in an exciting development, the Meta-owned app is introducing the ability to quickly send videos in the same manner.

“Exciting news for WhatsApp users – we are introducing the feature to instantly record and share video messages within your WhatsApp chats.

It’s as simple as sending a quick voice message,” announced Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, on his Instagram Channel.
The rollout of video messages has already begun and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks. WhatsApp assures users that video messages are protected by end-to-end encryption.

According to WhatsApp, “Video messages provide a real-time way to respond to chats with whatever you want to say and show in 60 seconds. We believe these video messages will be a delightful way to share moments, as they capture the emotions that come with video, whether it’s a birthday wish, a good laugh, or exciting news.”
Sending a video message is easy:
Currently, users need to tap the “Camera” icon on the message bar, select the “video” option, record a clip, and then send it to the desired recipient or group. Now, users can simply tap the ‘microphone’ button next to the message bar to switch to the video option.

Users can then tap and hold the video button to record their desired video. When they release their thumb, WhatsApp will automatically send the video to the intended recipient or group. Just like when sending an audio clip, users can swipe to the left to cancel the recording.
For longer videos, users can swipe up to lock and continue recording hands-free. There is also a camera swap option for sending videos from the front camera. Additionally, videos will play automatically without sound when opened in a chat, and tapping on the video will activate the sound.
