Vivo V15 Pro Review: Mid-Range Pop-Up Selfie Camera Phone

Vivo is emerging as one of the best Smartphone manufacturers as the company is continuously working hard to deliver innovative design and technology to its flagship phones. In the previous year, Vivo introduced the first ever pop-up camera phone called Vivo Nex and thereafter they also launched the Dual-Display edition of Vivo Nex which was revolutionary in this field of technology. And now, they again hit the market with a new flagship phone called Vivo V15 Pro which sports a pop-up selfie camera at the front and has a triple rear camera at the back.

As you know, many other brands have revealed their flagship phones at the recently held Mobile World Congress 2019, so it will be a bit harder for Vivo V15 Pro to survive in the market. However, it features some advanced tech in it which might help this phone to give hard competition to other phones in this range. It features an In-display fingerprint sensor, triple rear camera setup, 3,700mAh battery and many more things which makes this phone standing in the competition. However, it is priced at Rs 28,990 which is apparently an affordable price range but still, there are many other options available at this range which might beat up this phone. So, let’s take a deeper look at Vivo V15 Pro as it worth the price or not?

Build Quality and Design

Vivo V15 Pro is made up of good quality plastic material. However, at first look, this appears to have a glass finish at the back but actually, it’s a plastic body. It has glossy finish at the back and has some patterns drawn in it which shines when light strikes on them. However, due to glossy finish at the back panel, it easily attracts smudges and dust and so you have to wipe it again to again. Vivo V15 Pro sports curved edges instead of sharp one which makes it easier to carry. However, the only thing which looks annoying is the camera module’s bump which looks a bit odd one in this elegant design.

Vivo V15 Pro comes in two color variants, Topaz Blue and Ruby Red which has different textures on the back depending upon the color. This phone is slimmer than what it actually looks which gives it a premium look. On the right of the panel, power button and volume buttons are placed while at the left, there is a dedicated Google Assistant button and a MicroSD card tray is placed. The dedicated Google Assistant button can be configured for different functions starting from enabling virtual assistant, for Snapshot and many more things which you can select from the setting.

At the top, you get a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, and a pop-up selfie camera. At the bottom, there exists a sim tray and a Micro-USB port. This is a bit odd that this phone comes with a Micro-USB port instead of the fast USB Type-C port which can be found even in some low-range smartphones.

At the front, Vivo V15 Pro features a 6.39-inch Full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution Super AMOLED notch display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Also, the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It has very slim bezels which give it an immersive look. Also, its notch-less design puts a feather in the cap in terms of its look and design.

Specifications and Software

The all-new Vivo V15 Pro is powered by a mid-range performer octa-core Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 SoC which is based on the 10nm fabrication process. It is further coupled with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage which can be further extended up to 256GB via a MicroSD card.

Vivo V15 Pro comes with full-size sim tray means, you can put dual Nano SIM as well as a MicroSD card at the same time to use dual sim functionality without giving up the external MicroSD card. In addition to this, V15 Pro has rich connectivity options as it includes dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS, a Micro-USB port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. And the sensors onboard are an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.

At the other end, Vivo V15 Pro runs on the latest FunTouch OS 9 which is based on the latest Android 9 Pie running on January 2019 Android Security patch. It offers a clean and immersive UI which makes it easier for a user to handle this phone. It also has some pre-installed apps which include some company’s own apps including V-AppStore, iMusic, iTheme, Albums, and VivoCloud among others, as well as third-party apps that include Paytm, PhonePe, Gaana, UC Browser, and WPS Office.

Performance, Cameras, and Battery Life

As mentioned above, Vivo has settled an apparently mid-range processor Snapdragon 675 in V15 Pro instead of more powerful processor like SD 710. Looking for this price range, one might get a more powerful processor in some other device. However, Snapdragon 675 gives great performance at every stage.

There were no signs of lags even when 12-15 apps were running at the same time. Even, it delivered great Gaming performance also. Vivo V15 Pro features Hyper Boost technology which easily handles some high-end games like PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9, Modern Combat 5 without any lag. However, it gets heated up a bit while playing extensive games. So, overall it delivered quite good performance.

Now coming on the Camera’s performance, Vivo V15 Pro houses a triple rear camera setup at the back with a 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and 120-degrees view angle, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. On the front, there placed a 32-megapixel pop-up selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. This phone features a lot of camera features including slow-motion recording, bokeh mode with multiple portrait lighting effects, Night mode, Live Photos. Even it is capable enough to capture 4K video recordings.

Vivo V15 Pro delivers great performance during daylight. It captures pictures with good details and depth with great accuracy. The bokeh mode works amazing and delivers great performance. Edge-detection works very fast and instantly blurs the background in bokeh mode. It also captures fairly good pictures in a low-light situation, however, sharpness can be improved in the low-light pictures. The Wide-Angle sensor is the best performer in the set and will surely be loved by photographers. It gives 120-degrees of view which is enough to indulge the whole scene in a single picture.

Now, the 32-megapixel pop-up selfie camera also delivers great performance. It is bundled with some AI-beautification tools which works great. They perfectly read your skin tone and brushed them with fairly great beautification setup. The camera captures good pictures with a great mixture of vibrant and details. So overall, Camera performance of Vivo V15 Pro is amazing.

Now coming to the battery life, Vivo V15 Pro is fuelled by 3,700mAh battery which is capable enough to run this phone through the day. However, it lasted for about 12.5 hours on continuous usage which includes few hours of Gaming, social media for about an hour, some online videos streaming and YouTube and about an hour of music playback which looks fairly good. Also, supports Vivo’s Dual Engine fast charging technology and can charge your phone from zero to 75 percent within an hour which is amazing.

Vivo V15 Pro is a great phone if you are looking for a mid-range premium phone with great features and functionality. However, it seems that Vivo V15 Pro is a bit overpriced as there are some other options available in the market which give more powerful specification below this price range. But overall, this is a worth buy phone if you are running full of pockets.
