Valiant Launches Kickstarter For First Original Graphic Novel

This November, Valiant Comics will be launching a Kickstarter for their first original graphic novel, Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth.

Warning: contains preview pages for Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth!

The Eternal Warrior is one of Valiant Comics’ most popular heroes, and the company will soon launch a new Kickstarter campaign to bring fans the publisher’s first original graphic novel, Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth. The latest in a line of Kickstarter initiatives from Valiant, Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth is written by Tres Dean with art by Alberto Taracido and a cover by Gerald Parel.

Appearing in the first incarnation of the Valiant Universe, the Eternal Warrior is Gilad Anni-Padda, one of three immortal brothers. More savage and violent than his siblings, the Eternal Warrior has wandered the Earth for countless centuries, fighting the good fight and encountering many of Valiant’s other heroes. He is sometimes assisted by the Geomancer, a special individual with the power to speak to the Earth. The character was revived in 2012 for the new Valiant Universe and has been a pillar of it since. The Eternal Warrior will now star in the publisher’s first-ever original graphic novel, and fans can be a part of it through the Kickstarter campaign.

In an article on Comic Book Resources, Valiant gave a tease of the graphic novel’s premise, as well as preview art, shared below. The Eternal Warrior and Tama, the Geomancer, are investigating a series of mysterious fires. While most of the world has written them off as accidents, the Eternal Warrior and the Geomancer are not so sure, believing them to be the work an ancient fire god.

The actual Kickstarter will not launch until early November, with rewards ranging from digital editions to signed copies, but the first 250 fans to sign up for the campaign’s newsletter will receive special day-one access, as well as a bookmark featuring Taracido’s art. Taracido was thrilled to be illustrating the Eternal Warrior’s adventures, calling it a “challenge.” Likewise, writer Tres Dean was also excited to work on the character, saying the concept of a “big dude with an ax who lives forever” sold him on it. He had praise for his collaborators, calling them an “insanely talented creative team.”

Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth is the next step for Valiant. Releasing their first original graphic novel, one clocking in at nearly 100 pages, is an amazing feat, and shows the endurance and appeal of the Valiant characters. Not content to simply publish it, Valiant is taking it to another level through their Kickstarter, allowing fans to help bring to life this historic book. It is also fitting that the Eternal Warrior, one of Valiant’s oldest (literally and figuratively) characters is the first to get an original graphic novel.

Valiant Comics continues to grow in new and exciting ways, with movies featuring their characters as well as tabletop board games. Now Valiant is poised for the next stage, releasing their first original graphic novel, Eternal Warrior: Scorched Earth.
