Unveiling the Debut of the Comic Book ‘God Is a Bullet’ at SDCC

An electrifying action story that may have slipped under your radar during its theatrical release this summer is now being adapted into a comic book. Experience the thrilling world of God Is a Bullet in a whole new way, exclusively available for purchase at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Directed by Nick Cassavetes, this captivating project delves into a violent plot, following characters who must endure harrowing trials in search of the emotional resolution they’ve longed for. Throughout the story’s action-packed runtime, themes of cults, death, and more are explored.

Portraying the protagonist Bob Hightower is the talented Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, a detective whose ex-wife is murdered and teenage daughter is kidnapped by a controversial satanic cult. Desperate to save his family, Bob hatches a daring plan to infiltrate the very organization seeking to end their lives. Assisting him is the resourceful Case Hardin, played by Maika Monroe. Hardin proves to be the perfect ally, as she is the only person to have ever escaped the clutches of the cult—alive.

Jamie Foxx also joins the cast of this gripping thriller, portraying a character simply known as The Ferryman. While it is common for comic book adaptations to be based on stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe or DCU, God Is a Bullet takes a different approach. Rather than bringing a comic book story to the big screen, it embraces its cinematic roots by transitioning from film to comic book form. Copies of the adaptation will be available for purchase exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con, with limited quantities for collectors.

How Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Found Motivation

In a recent interview with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, Coster-Waldau shared how the film’s challenging themes impacted him. He explained, “Well, it was a challenge. You always talk about movies and how they affect you. With this one, for a number of reasons, it took a toll. It took a toll on all of us. We were isolated, and every day the scenes were emotionally brutal and extreme. We were confronted with the darkest aspects of humanity. But what Nick did so brilliantly was remind us that at the core, it’s about finding hope when there seems to be none and making meaningful connections with people. It’s a reminder not to judge a book by its cover.”
