The second episode of Secret Invasion presented a whirlwind of developments that left us craving more. As the miniseries takes us deeper into the world of political intrigue, the stakes continue to rise, keeping us captivated.

However, even amidst the political drama, we see glimpses of the typical Marvel style. G’iah discovers a hidden DNA collider in Gravik’s base, adding an element of excitement to the grounded nature of the show. Although its presence may seem incongruous, it sets the stage for what lies ahead.

Now, let’s explore the concept of Extremis and its significance in the series.

What is Extremis?

Extremis is a nanotech-enabled virus created by genetic biologist Maya Hansen. It was further developed by Aldrich Killian and his organization, A.I.M., to enhance the subject’s DNA. The virus specifically targets the brain’s repair functions, allowing individuals to heal from wounds, regenerate lost limbs, and even manipulate the virus to produce explosive heat.

In Iron Man 3, Killian planned to create an army of Extremis Soldiers. However, Iron Man, War Machine, and J.A.R.V.I.S. thwarted his plans. The virus later fell into the hands of HYDRA’s Centipede Project, where it was combined with other technologies to create enhanced soldiers. Thanks to the efforts of Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., the Centipede Project was eventually dismantled.

With Extremis in their possession, Gravik aims to equip his Skrull warriors with its extraordinary abilities. The thought of having alien soldiers with explosive powers and enhanced durability is unsettling, and we hope Nick Fury can prevent Gravik’s plans from becoming a reality.
