Twitter’s Latest Version of Tweetdeck Now Requires Verification and a Payment

Twitter has announced the official launch of its “new” version of TweetDeck to the public. This move comes as a response to the recent issues that TweetDeck has been facing. However, there is a catch to this update. In 30 days, TweetDeck will only be available to Verified users who have subscribed to Twitter Blue.

All users will be required to switch to the new version, according to Twitter employees who have provided some insights into the problems with the previous version. Many users, including myself, have experienced columns that continuously display a “Loading…” message, rendering the old interface useless.

While it was initially believed that the rate limits imposed by Twitter were causing these empty columns, the Twitter employees clarified that the issues were due to Twitter removing legacy APIs to prevent data scraping.

The transition to the new version will begin this week, as confirmed by an employee. However, some Twitter users are requesting the company to reconsider this move. I personally didn’t have a positive experience with the TweetDeck Preview in 2021, and my colleague also shared the same sentiment. It remains to be seen if the official release has addressed these concerns, but Twitter’s lack of communication on their TweetDeck account is concerning.

When contacted for comment, Twitter’s press email responded with a poop emoji, which has been its auto-reply since March.

Update: As of July 3rd, 6:32PM ET, Twitter has officially launched the new TweetDeck, making it exclusive to Twitter Blue subscribers.
