Twitter undergoes radical rebranding as X: Elon Musk reveals new logo

He also shared a captivating image of the company’s headquarters illuminated with a striking giant X, symbolizing the imminent arrival of the new interim X logo.

The official Twitter account, as well as Musk’s personal account, now prominently displays the X logo. In his bio, Musk simply directs visitors to x.com. In the midst of this transformation, Musk conducted a Twitter poll, seeking users’ opinions on whether Twitter’s classic light blue color scheme should be replaced with black. An overwhelming 74.8 percent of respondents voted in favor of the change.

Prior to this announcement, Musk had alluded to bidding farewell to the Twitter brand and its association with birds, setting the stage for this latest shakeup. The pressure on Twitter intensified when Meta, a major competitor owning Instagram and Facebook, launched the Threads app earlier this month. Impressively, Threads attracted approximately 100 million users within its first week. When Musk assumed control of Twitter in October 2022, the platform had around 238 million active users.

Linda Yaccarino, CEO appointed by Musk in June, lauded the rebranding efforts on the platform. She remarked, “It’s a rare opportunity, in life or in business, to have a second chance to make another significant impact. Twitter certainly left a profound mark and revolutionized the way we communicate. Now, X will push even further, transforming the global town square.”

Musk, who identifies as a “free speech absolutist,” acquired Twitter to ensure and uphold users’ ability to express themselves freely on the social media platform. However, his takeover drew backlash from groups such as the Anti-Defamation League, Free Press, and GLAAD. These organizations pressured companies to withdraw their advertising from Twitter, expressing concerns about recent layoffs and fearing that Musk’s budget cuts would render Twitter’s election-integrity policies ineffective.
