August is set to be a majestic month with the highly-anticipated release of the Red, White & Royal Blue adaptation on Prime Video. Based on best-selling author Casey McQuistion’s novel, the queer romance follows the story of rivals Alex and Henry, who unexpectedly fall in love. Ahead of the movie’s debut, Prime Video has shared a series of new images, offering a glimpse into the movie’s ensemble cast, with a particular focus on the chemistry between Alex (played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) and Henry (played by Nicholas Galitzine).
The stunning new photos, which were first revealed by Glamour, showcase the two leads in a variety of situations. They range from an intimate moment between the two, free from prying eyes, to that iconic cake-smashing scene from McQuiston’s book. In addition to our beloved leads, the images give us a glimpse of other key cast members, including Uma Thurman as Alex’s mother Ellen, Ellie Bamber as Henry’s sister Bea, Sarah Shahi as Zahra, Malcolm Atobrah as Percy, and Rachel Hilson as Nora.
Red, White & Royal Blue places Alex and Henry at the heart of the story, focusing on their evolving relationship that goes beyond rivalry. Despite Alex’s mother’s recent election as President of the United States, life isn’t easy for Alex, with Henry across the pond complicating matters. Eventually, the two begin to build a friendship, which gradually blossoms into a genuine romance. However, they must keep their feelings under wraps to avoid any negative impact on their respective families.
Aside from its stellar cast, the movie also boasts an impressive team of creatives. Tony Award-winner Matthew López directed the feature, with Ted Malawar contributing an earlier screenplay draft. López, McQuistion, Michael Riley McGrath, and Michael S. Constable executive produced, while Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter produced through Berlanti/Schechter Films.
Galitzine, who plays Henry, expressed his excitement about the movie, saying, “it’s a really heartwarming story. Not a lot of films like this are made, and I hope it’s important for the LGBTQ+ community because there needs to be more films like this.” He also highlighted the fantastic response to the book, expressing his hope that the movie can do the same and touch the hearts of viewers from all backgrounds.
