ToTok Removed from the Official AppStore and PlayStore

ToTok, a popular Emiraty messaging app get into trouble after the US Investigation Agency’s reports claiming that the app is being used as a spying tool by the Government. ToTok has gained massive popularity across the globe with millions of its downloads on Android and iOS mobile platforms.

According to the US Investigation Agency, this app is collecting the users’ data such as current location, video and voice conversations and much more. The app’s data was used by Government Agencies without the users’ consent.

After encountering this issue, Google and Apple have removed this app from their official AppStore and Play Store. If you have been using this app on your Android or iOS device, you are requested to remove or uninstall the app right away from your device.

According to Computer Experts the app developer behind ToTok, Breej Holding, is closely associated with DarkMatter. DarkMatter is a known Cyber intelligence and hacking agency headquartered in Abu Dhabi. This agency is already under investigation by the FBI due to illegal activities done by them without anyone’s consent.

The app has been removed officially from the AppStore and Play Store by Google and Apple. However, it is not completely closed down. The app is still running and most of the existing users of the app are using it to make voice calls and video calls as well as text messages as they are still unknown about the issue.

In the future, the app will not receive any update officially and you would no longer be able to install the app from the official stores on Android or Apple devices. The app is working as a tool to collect the users’ data and hence you should not allow them to do so without your consent. There are many alternatives you can use with the help of the VPN app in the UAE. Consider using such apps instead of this one.

The makers have even released an official statement regarding this issue bu denied on commenting about the illegal collection of the users’ data. We will get to know more about this app and whether it will be back on the AppStore and PlayStore or not. Stay tuned!
