Total War Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change adds three new lords real soon

Total War Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change has finally received its release date and full reveal. This highly anticipated Creative Assembly strategy game DLC will be the first of three upcoming expansions, set to be released later this month. Alongside the DLC, players can also expect the Total War Warhammer 3 4.0 patch, which includes both free content and paid Legendary Lords. Let’s take a closer look at what the DLC has in store.

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the Total War Warhammer 3 roadmap, we now have an abundance of details and a confirmed release date for Shadows of Change, the first of three expansions coming our way.

Shadows of Change, the Total War Warhammer 3 DLC, will be launched on Thursday, August 31. Pre-ordering ahead of its release grants a 10% discount. Check out the trailer for Shadows of Change below.

In addition, Shadows of Change introduces the Total War Warhammer 3 patch 4.0. This patch includes various improvements, such as the addition of the free Legendary Hero Aekold Helbrass, enhancements to campaign AI and garrisons, new landmarks for legacy factions, and expanded difficulty settings. Despite the development of nine new Warhammer games, it’s delightful to see ongoing support for the remarkable Warhammer 3.

The highlight of Shadows of Change lies in the introduction of three new Legendary Lords: Tzeentch, Yuan Bo, and Mother Ostankya, all interconnected characters entering the Warhammer 3 universe. Yuan Bo has previously clashed with Tzeentch’s forces, so another confrontation between the two is likely to take place.

Tzeentch possesses the ability to create cults in enemy cities, which can later evolve into grand schemes. These schemes can be expanded to the ultimate scheme, allowing Tzeentch to sow discord and secure victory.

Tzeentch Units

  • The Blue Scribes: These beings are tasked with the collection of forbidden lore and spells. P’tarix and Xirat’p rain random blasts of arcane death from their Disk of Tzeentch as they soar over the battlefield.
  • Tzaangors: This hit-and-run infantry grows in power based on the number of spells cast around them.
  • Cockatrice: These winged monstrosities unleash acid and poison upon their enemies.
  • Mutalith Vortex Beast: This tentacled abomination carries a ball of raw magic on its back and casts devastating magical attacks.

Next up is Yuan Bo, a master of sorcery and statecraft. He possesses the ability to expedite construction within a single turn and to create diplomatic discord, allowing his armies to move freely through enemy territory.

Yuan Bo Units

  • Jade Lion: This monstrous unit replenishes Winds of Magic reserves during battle, launching powerful flaming magical attacks while pouncing on Cathay’s foes.
  • Jet Lion: This monstrous anti-magic unit strengthens allied spellcasters while causing enemy mages to miscast and redirecting enemy ranged units’ missiles back at them.
  • Onyx Crowmen: These winged servants of the Moon Empress excel in melee combat.
  • Celestial General: This new Lord is an aggressive front-line leader, wielding a formidable Warhammer to smash through foes.

Last but not least, we have Mother Ostankya, who embarks on a mission to uncover forbidden Hexes. Players must defeat the foes guarding these Hexes and collect trinkets for The Witch Hut to access powerful incantations.

Mother Ostankya Units

  • Hag Witch: This fast-moving spellcasting Legendary Hero rides into battle on a chariot.
  • Elemental Incarnate of Beasts: This giant avatar of raw natural ferocity harnesses the power of the Lore of Beasts to terrify and brutalize opponents.
  • The Things in the Woods: These fast-moving infantry killers are adept at hunting in woodland areas.
  • Akshina Rangers: Clad in bearskins, these skirmishers can hide in plain sight and excel in combat within forest environments.

If you’ve been playing Warhammer 3 through PC Game Pass, please note that it will be leaving the service before the release of the new Shadows of Change DLC. You will need to purchase the DLC separately before then.
