Tom Holland Reveals His Inner Struggle: A Part of Him Contemplates Walking Away From Spider-Man

Is it time for a new hero to take on the role of New York’s greatest web-slinger? In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland expressed his desire to move away from his role as Spider-Man. After seven years of portraying Peter Parker in his own trilogy and crossover events, there hasn’t been much progress on a fourth installment since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in 2021. Holland’s recent comments indicate a change in his perspective on the beloved character. Here’s what the actor had to say:

“It was myself, Amy, [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige, [executive producer] Rachel [O’Connor], sometimes other executives from Marvel will sit in,” he says. “It’s a collaborative process. The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why. I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative.

“But I’m also a little apprehensive about it,” he adds. “There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”

This iteration of Spider-Man made his debut in Captain America: Civil War when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) recruited him to fight against Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his team. The character had previously been portrayed by Andrew Garfield two years prior, and fans were excited about his inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland’s performance in Civil War left a positive impression, paving the way for his own franchise and the return of Marvel’s beloved hero.

The Future of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man

A few years later, Holland’s Spider-Man embarked on another European adventure in Spider-Man: Far From Home before getting caught up in the multiverse chaos in No Way Home. With the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Peter Parker found a solution to his problem. However, he has yet to be seen in any other Marvel project. The fourth Spider-Man movie starring Holland is currently in development but has been put on hold due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. The film’s release date has not been announced.
