Tom Cruise Takes Swift Action in Action-Packed Moment

With the highly anticipated release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One on July 12, the stakes have never been higher for the long-running franchise. In this seventh installment, Tom Cruise reprises his role as the iconic action hero Ethan Hunt, and he is joined by newcomer Hayley Atwell as Grace. As we eagerly await the film’s debut next month, a captivating behind-the-scenes featurette has been unveiled, showcasing the filmmakers’ process of capturing the chaotic high-speed chase scenes on the bustling streets of Rome.

When it came to developing these high-stakes, intense chase scenes, co-writer and director Christopher McQuarrie left no stone unturned. His goal was to push the franchise beyond its previous limits and create something with greater ambition and unpredictability. McQuarrie explains that they let the city of Rome guide them in shaping the nature of the chase, resulting in a thrilling and unpredictable experience. The team faced the real challenges of filming the chase sequences entirely on Rome’s cobblestone streets amidst the city’s notorious traffic.

To make matters even more challenging, Cruise and Atwell were handcuffed together during the shooting of the scenes, adding an extra layer of complexity. With only one hand to steer the vehicle, Cruise joked that the key was not to crash. A specially modified Fiat 500 was built for the film, allowing it to reach high speeds, but also making it more difficult to control. Despite the tremendous difficulties involved, McQuarrie asserts that the sequence they have created is one of the most challenging and visually stunning yet.
