Tidal Increases the Costs of Select Subscription Plans

Tidal, the latest entrant in the music streaming industry, has made the decision to increase the prices of some of its plans. While it may not be ranked among the top five most popular music streaming services in the US in terms of subscriber numbers, Tidal is undoubtedly one of the players in the market that has chosen to raise the prices of its standard plans.

According to a recent report by Billboard, which has been confirmed through a Reddit post, Tidal will be raising the pricing of its standard HiFi tier by $1, from $9.99 to $10.99. Additionally, the family plans will also become more expensive, with Tidal announcing a price increase from $14.99 to $16.99 for this specific tier, starting from the next month.

Fortunately, subscribers to the HiFi Plus plan will not be affected by this price increase. Tidal has confirmed to Engadget that its most expensive plan will continue to cost $19.99 per month, even after the newly announced price hikes come into effect.

Speaking of which, all Tidal subscribers, except those with a HiFi Plus subscription, will have to pay more from August 1 onwards. The HiFi Plus subscription includes features like Dolby Atmos, Sony 360 Reality Audio, MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) tracks, and high-fidelity FLAC support.

As of now, there have been no reported changes to the free and student plans, or the discounted military memberships. The price increases will be implemented globally next month, indicating that this change will not be limited to select countries.

Currently, Spotify is the only major music streaming service in the United States that has not raised the prices of its plans. However, this may not last long as the CEO of Spotify has already stated their readiness to increase prices, leading us to anticipate an announcement by the end of the year.
