This recent update enhances the usefulness of your Microsoft Teams meeting notes

Microsoft Teams calls are about to become easier to understand with an exciting new collaboration update. The video conferencing service is introducing an upgrade that allows all participants to make annotations during a call. Previously, only the user sharing their screen had this capability, but now it will be available to everyone, enabling quick and simple collaboration on thoughts, suggestions, and ideas.

Microsoft Teams collaborative notes

In May 2023, Microsoft announced the introduction of “Collaborative notes.” This feature lets meeting attendees co-create and collaborate on meeting agendas, notes, and action items.

In the official Microsoft 365 roadmap, the feature is listed as rolling out now and will be accessible to users on both Mac and Windows Desktop. This update also allows users to make notes on the go, which will sync automatically with their contacts. Any tasks assigned in the collaborative notes will also sync with the ToDo and Planner apps, ensuring important actions are not missed.

Analysis: Maximum collaboration, or chaos?

The expanded annotation feature, though intended to foster collaboration, may lead to chaotic and messy calls or meetings. While enhanced collaboration is a key appeal of platforms like Microsoft Teams, its usefulness relies on users using the tools responsibly. Hopefully, Microsoft has implemented controls to prevent meetings from devolving into a jumble of colored words and scribbles, ensuring that this feature truly benefits workers everywhere.
