This Fantastic Nintendo Switch Game Just Got A Major Price Drop

We’ve reached a bit of a lull in the year in terms of Nintendo Switch releases, but while we don’t yet know what major first-party games Nintendo may have planned for this fall, there are still plenty of gems on the platform just waiting to be discovered. One such game is AI: The Somnium Files, a mystery-driven adventure game that released late last year. Normally $60, this excellent game has seen its first permanent price drop at one retailer, and it’s a big one–Best Buy just slashed the price on AI: The Somnium Files to $30.

This permanent discount matches the lowest price we’ve ever seen for the game; recently, it was $30 in an eShop sale (that has since ended). So far, Best Buy is the only retailer that’s currently offering this price, and all the digital stores (the Eshop, Steam, PSN) still have it listed at $60, so this is a fantastic deal worth taking advantage of.

AI: The Somnium Files comes from the creators of Danganronpa and Zero Escape, and it takes those dark, puzzle-oriented themes in a new direction. The game follows detective Kaname Date, who leads a team that investigates murder cases. Date uses an artificial intelligence named Aiba that allows him to investigate crime scenes at a detailed level, including X-ray vision and zooming. Date can also enter the memories of suspects or witnesses to find more clues and additional info–but these dreamscapes collapse after six minutes, and certain interactions will cause you to lose a chunk of time, so careful calculation is needed to find the info you need.

AI: The Somnium Files is a thrilling adventure that builds on the dark atmosphere and life-or-death moments of the Zero Escape series with a unique premise, memorable characters, and terrifying somnium worlds to explore. The game earned an 8/10 in GameSpot’s AI: The Somnium Files review.

“Despite the occasional frustration in exploring its dream landscapes, the whole of AI: the Somnium Files winds up being a fun, thrilling, and engaging experience,” wrote critic Heidi Kemps. “The story is filled with intriguing twists and shocking surprises, and the characters and their individual arcs inspire you to care about what happens to them. The somnium dream worlds add a layer of psychological horror to the ongoing mystery, and Date and Aiba’s constant back-and-forth interactions provide levity to make every investigation all the more amusing. AI’s unconventional detective story is one you won’t soon forget.”

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
