In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miguel O’Hara is known for being dark and brooding, yet serious about protecting the multiverse from anomalies. But a recent discovery has shown that this moody Spider-person has something in common with Toad from The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The discovery was made when a tweet examined the international voice actors for Across the Spider-Verse, specifically the Japanese voice actors to see if any of them had notable roles in other mediums.
It was found that Tomokazu Seki, known for his roles in Assassination Classroom, Demon Slayer, and One Piece, voices Miguel O’Hara in the Japanese dub of the film. Interestingly, Seki also voices Captain Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a character who is known for being cute and adorable. It’s a funny contrast with a dark and serious role such as Miguel. Seki’s talent is further highlighted by the fact that he voiced Agustin Madrigal in Encanto, who is a completely different character altogether.
This news is sure to bring a smile to many faces. Watching two characters with completely different personalities, both voiced by the same person, is a unique experience. Interestingly, Peter B. Parker is voiced by a different actor in the Japanese dub, with Mamoru Miyano, known for his role as Mr. Light Yagami in Death Note, stepping into the iconic plumber’s shoes.
While the Japanese dub of the film is not yet available in America, it’s possible that it may be included as an option on streaming platforms in the future. For now, English-speaking audiences can enjoy Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in theaters.
