The Sands of Time Remake Confirmed at UbiForward

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake comes to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on January 21.

Today’s UbiForward was full of big announcements, updates, and reveals. One of the biggest was the reveal of the next Prince of Persia game. The long-running franchise has been mostly dormant since 2010. Sure, they’ve released a few mobile games and brought the Prince into some of their other games, but, for the most part, it’s been a neglected franchise for the last decade. That all changes now. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is set to launch next January. Check out the trailer below.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time originally launched way back in 2003. The game has been remade once for the PS3 in 2010, so this update will give a whole new audience a look at the Prince.

Of course, the game has been updated visually, while keeping most of the design the same. That said, the team has done some work to improve both combat and movement. Hopefully, that brings the game up to modern standards and keeps the game from feeling dated. They’ve also done some work in the cinematics, which should provide some added flair.

That said, it wouldn’t be complete without Yuri Lowenthal. He voiced the Prince in all three games in the trilogy. And he’s back for the remake. So, fans won’t have to worry about the Prince sounding different.

It’ll be interesting to see how the remake does. We’ve seen games like Tony Hawk have a resurgence this year, so there’s a market for it. That said, it doesn’t look like Ubisoft has done as much for Prince of Persia. I hope I’m wrong, but the early footage doesn’t have me convinced this will be a remake fans love.
