The Resemblance Between Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon and Star Wars is Striking, Considering its Origins as a Star Wars Project

Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated Rebel Moon, initially conceived as a Star Wars film, still carries a distinct Star Wars vibe. Empire Magazine has unveiled a series of exclusive images from Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi flick, and one particular image catches the eye – a woman brandishing two red light blades. Undeniably reminiscent of a Sith from the Star Wars universe, this depiction might bear a striking resemblance to the forthcoming Star Wars series, The Acolyte, which draws inspiration from Akira Kurosawa.

Snyder firmly asserted that Rebel Moon would not have worked as a Star Wars film. He explained to Empire that there were several factors contributing to this decision, stating, “The sale of Lucasfilm to Disney had just occurred. During that window, anything could have been possible.” He continued, “I made it clear that I didn’t want to utilize any pre-existing characters; I wanted to carve my own path. Initially, I even proposed an R rating, but that idea was met with resistance.”

This sentiment aligns with Logan director James Mangold’s recent revelation that his attempt to create an R-rated Star Wars film also fizzled out. Other images from Rebel Moon portray a heavily built man wielding an imposing firearm, a spaceship traversing a sea of explosions, two characters standing together in a ship, and a girl alongside a robot (portrayed by Anthony Hopkins) on a serene planet.

Rebel Moon is only the first installment in an expansive sci-fi saga that includes an accompanying “massive” video game adaptation, according to Snyder. The film is set to premiere on Netflix on December 22, with a Snyder cut version, featuring additional R-rated themes, also in the works.

In summary, Rebel Moon, while initially resembling a Star Wars film, has evolved into something entirely distinct. Zack Snyder’s creative vision, combined with Empire Magazine’s exclusive images, provides an exciting glimpse of the sci-fi epic. Brace yourself for a cinematic experience that will transport you to uncharted territories.
