Since its release on June 2nd, the highly anticipated movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has been a huge hit with audiences and critics alike. While the promotional efforts have been stellar, a recent poster has given fans an unexpected reason to laugh and crack jokes.

It’s been five years since we were first introduced to the Spider-Verse in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Back then, the great Stan Lee was still alive, and reminiscing about that brings about a lot of nostalgia. However, Spider-Man has continued to wow the audience with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with an impressive 9/10 rating on IMDb and a 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Gwen and Miles have reunited, and the entire Spider-Man fan club has a lot more to talk about now.

As if all that wasn’t enough, a new poster for the movie, with printing in Hanzi, appears to be generating a lot of buzz, but not for the anticipated reasons. While the artist may have been thinking of something else while creating the art, most people cannot help but see a string of Ben Wa balls.

Once you see it, you can’t unsee it…

It is worth noting that the artwork may be a depiction of the Chinese street food, tanghulu, which usually consists of several fruits on a skewer. Alternatively, it could be dango, which is a food made from rice balls. Although the poster’s true meaning remains a mystery, people cannot stop making jokes about it.

Regardless of the artwork’s actual meaning, it has allowed the Spider-Verse universe to have fun by letting its fans’ minds wander right into the gutter.
