The Morning After: Tesla jailbreak could enable Full Self-Driving for free

Security researchers claim to have discovered a method to unlock upgrades for Teslas without the need for additional payment. They were able to manipulate the voltage of the infotainment system and inject their own code, bypassing the normal security measures. This allowed them to access personal data, such as GPS tracking and call logs, as well as the car’s encryption key. The researchers believe this could potentially unlock paywalled features like the Full Self-Driving mode.

Unfortunately, Tesla is also facing allegations of fraud. A recent expose by Reuters suggests that the company provided inaccurate range estimates and secretly established a team to handle range-related complaints. As a result, three Californians have proposed a lawsuit against Tesla for false advertising. If successful, the lawsuit could cover all Tesla owners in the state.
