The new Doctor Who game will include Jodie Whittaker and David Tennant.

That popular sci-fi BBC production, Doctor Who got a VR-exclusive experience last year. Doctor Who: The Edge of Time that saw Jodie Whittaker faced against puzzles to solve and enemies to fight. Now, a new game is on the way that steps away from the need for a VR headset and instead, players will be able to play a reimagining of the original in Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality in a first-person adventure experience.

Being developed by Maze Theory, and in partnership with BBC Studios, the new game is slated to launch sometime next year for consoles and PC. It is said to build upon the previous game along with new gameplay, monsters, and worlds to explore. Player’s will still take control of Jodie Whittaker’s sonic screwdriver, and will also be guided by her voice, as well as David Tennant who will be joining her.

The teaser, available to view below, doesn’t give away much in terms of gameplay but does focus on a story that finds the universe being saved by you. It does look rather dark and spooky and shows off some close-ups of things, including a Dalek and Cyberman.

While it details the launch of the game to be heading to PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox, the press release does state, it is “built with current and next-generation consoles in mind,”. The story may be heavy in lore with references to past events, but then it is a whole new story in which you’ll uncover a universe-spanning threat and time-breaking glitches. You’ll continue the story from the VR title, Doctor Who:  The Edge of Time, and basically go even deeper into the mystery.

While we’ve already seen the Dalek and Cybermen in the trailer, there are also meant to be Weeping Angels and more enemies that are still yet to be revealed.

You can expect to see Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality launching in Spring 2021 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It will also be heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
