The Division 2 will Release on Epic’s Game Store, instead of Steam

Epic Games teamed up with Ubisoft to release some of its upcoming Publisher’s PC Games on Epic Game Store including Tom Clancy’s Division 2.

Ubisoft is bringing its upcoming shared-world shooter, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on Epic Game Store instead of Steam. The PC version of this game is going to be available on Ubisoft’s Store and on Epic Game Store. Previously, the predecessor of this Game, The Division was sold through Steam, but due to the high charge cut of 30%, many publishers are moving away from Valve’s Steam. Recently in December, The Fortnite developers had moved away from Steam and opened their own online store. And now Ubisoft is moving away from Valve’s Steam.

“We have no plans currently on releasing Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on Steam,” a Ubisoft spokesperson said. Ubisoft and Epic will “also partner on additional select titles [coming to the Epic Games Store] to be announced during the coming year.”

“We entrust Epic to deliver a smooth journey for our fans, from preordering the game and enjoying our Beta to the launch of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on March 15,” Ubisoft VP of partnerships, Chris Early said in the announcement. “Epic continues to disrupt the videogame [sic] industry, and their third-party digital distribution model is the latest example, and something Ubisoft wants to support.”

The Division 2 is set to release on March 15, 2019, on Epic Game Store and on Ubisoft’s Store. The reason behind this swapping of Platform is the low price cut taken by Epic Games. They are going to make a charge cut of 12% which is far cheaper than Steam’s Charge. However, to give a tough competition to the major platforms like Steam, Epic Games has to launch some more Major Games on their Game Store.
