Tesla’s NACS flow finds a companion in FLO

FLO, a reputable third-party charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) headquartered in Quebec, has recently announced its plan to integrate Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector into its chargers across Canada. This exciting development follows the news that some Tesla Superchargers in Canada will soon be open to non-Tesla EVs, making EV charging more accessible to Canadians. General Motors (GM) has also disclosed that it will incorporate the NACS into its EV designs to ensure compatibility with Tesla’s widespread Supercharger network. Furthermore, Ford has promised that its EVs will be able to use Tesla chargers in Canada from the year 2022.

According to Nathan Yang, FLO’s Chief Product Officer, the company is committed to offering the optimal EV charging experience for its customers by adhering to the technologies and standards that they prefer. FLO’s flexible business model allows it to adopt standards and technologies that meet the customers’ needs. This is evident in the company’s new fast charger, the NEVI-compliant FLO UltraTM, designed to support NACS cables at customers’ or site hosts’ request. Furthermore, FLO intends to permit existing station customers to add NACS on compatible stations.

FLO presently controls approximately 23% of the Canadian EV charging market share and possesses over 90,000 charging stations across North America, chiefly in Canada. The business is well-known for its high station reliability, boasting an uptime rate of over 98%.

Importantly, FLO is striving to double Canada’s public fast-charging EV ports through a commitment from Canada’s Infrastructure Bank (CIB) loan.
