Tesla is secretly working on a new gadget for kids

Tesla is secretly working with Norway-based wearable company Xplora Technologies to develop a smartwatch for kids as per media reports. While there is no official word from Tesla on the same, Tesla’s involvement in the Xplora Smartwatch was revealed in a new FCC filing.
Details about this project is a tightly kept secret but the question remains as to why would Tesla want to venture in the smartwatch category. It is possible that Tesla may be interested in using the Xplora smartwatch platform to extend the benefits of keyless entry into Tesla cars to kids using a smartwatch. Or it may also be possible that Tesla wants to introduce new safety features for kids in the coming future. A smartwatch can be useful in tracking kids and also allows them to send voice messages to their parents by just a press of a button on their smartwatch.
The possibilities that arise from syncing a kids smartwatch to a Tesla car are many and may be Tesla even wants to try out an auto-chauffeur mode for kids, given that Tesla cars have self driving capabilities.
As per a report by Electrek, the FCC application for the new smartwatch mentions “Tesla Motors”. It reads, “The XPLORA Technologies AS, the undersigned, hereby authorizes Mr. Wu Xuewen from Shenzhen BALUN Technology Co., Ltd., to act on the behalf of the XPLORA Technologies AS solely in matters relating to the application for an FCC equipment authorization for FCC ID: 2AVMJX5P including the signing of documents in connection with this Application. Necessary acts carried out by Shenzhen BALUN Technology Co., Ltd. in connection with the Application shall have the same effect as acts of the Tesla Motors, Inc.”
Tesla is already looking at unlocking cars with your mobile phone. So, the most compelling reason for Tesla to work with a smartwatch brand could be that it may be looking at smartwatches as an alternative to keys.
