The BBC recently had some fun with Doctor Who, imagining what it would look like if the TARDIS landed in Barbie’s World. The result is a pinkish version of the iconic police box, and we have to admit, it’s pretty cool.
Kicking off this November with Showrunner Russell T. Davies, Fourteenth Doctor David Tennant, Catherine Tate (Donna Noble), and the upcoming three-episode 60th-anniversary event, a new era of Doctor Who is officially underway. The future looks bright with Fifteenth Doctor Ncuti Gatwa & companion Millie Gibson (Ruby Sunday) set for a Christmas Special before Series 14 premieres in 2024. Work on Series 15 is already in progress. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, Gatwa shared his excitement about joining the long-running series. But in a lighter, more playful note, let’s take a look at the BBC’s mash-up of Doctor Who and Barbie’s World, resulting in a pink TARDIS.
For those who may not appreciate the fun and “pop culture synergy,” let it be known that this pink TARDIS is only temporary. However, it’s undeniably cool and we can’t help but imagine a crossover episode featuring Gatwa’s Doctor and Margot Robbie’s Barbie. Here’s a look at the image posted on the show’s Instagram account:
And if you want to get to know Gatwa better, the BBC released a video introducing him after his casting news. Additionally, check out the trailer for the upcoming Barbie movie scheduled for release on July 21st:
Alongside Jemma Redgrave (Kate Lethbridge-Stewart), Aneurin Barnard (Roger ap Gwilliam), and Jack Forsyth-Noble (Will), Doctor Who Magazine #589 confirmed the addition of Bhav Joshi (Wedding Season), Eilidh Loan (Traces), Pete MacHale (Gangs of London), Miles Yekinni (Slow Horses), and Hemi Yeroham (Mamma Mia!) to the cast of the new series. Jinkx Monsoon (RuPaul’s Drag Race) was also announced to have joined the cast, followed by Jonathan Groff (Glee, Mindhunter) and Indira Varma (Obsession, Game of Thrones) as The Duchess, in May 2023. Bonnie Langford will be returning as Melanie Bush, and Lenny Rush as Morris.
