Suspense #7 features the debut comic book story of the legendary Gene Colan, the creator of Falcon, Carol Danvers, and Blade.
Suspense was a comic book anthology published by Marvel Comics during their Atlas era from 1949 to the mid-1950s. Initially, the series contained a mix of crime and horror stories, but by the third issue, it focused solely on horror. The crime stories continued in Amazing Detective Cases #3. Interestingly, Suspense would later inspire the creation of Tales Of Suspense, a comic book that introduced the beloved character Iron Man. Today, a copy of Suspense #7 from 1951, featuring Gene Colan’s early work, is being auctioned by Heritage Auctions.
Suspense #7 features a Spider-Man-style cover by Sol Brodsky and includes several gripping stories. One of the standout stories is “I Was Locked in a Mansion with… Murder!” by Gene Colan, which follows a banker who receives a death threat from a friend. Other stories in the issue include “Behind the Mask” by Don Rico, “The Web” with unknown credits, “Terror in the Tent” believed to be by Dick Briefer, “The Phantom” by Carl Wessler and Murphy Anderson, and “Dracula Lives” by unknown creators. The copy of Suspense #7 being auctioned by Heritage currently has bids totaling $75.
