Survivor Is Coming to PS4 and XB1; EA Teases More Games in the Franchise

Yesterday, during its Q1 2024 earnings call, Electronic Arts made a surprising announcement that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released for old-generation consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One). This news contradicts the previous statement from developer Respawn Entertainment, who had claimed that the game would only be available for next-generation consoles to provide an enhanced gaming experience for players.

Despite this contradiction, Electronic Arts seems to have prioritized the revenue potential of the large user base on old-generation consoles, aiming to achieve long-term value with the new releases. The company also stated that millions of players have already engaged with the game, indicating its commercial success. In addition, the publisher claimed that players are spending more time playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor compared to its predecessor, Fallen Order. However, no specific release date was provided for the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

One major concern is the performance of the game on these significantly less powerful consoles. Critics have pointed out the underwhelming performance, particularly on PC, where Respawn had to apologize for the game’s disappointing state at launch. Although several patches have been released to address these issues, they haven’t fully resolved the situation. PC players with a GeForce RTX 40 GPU can also benefit from a performance-enhancing DLSS 3 mod developed by PureDark, but this option won’t be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users.

During the Q1 2024 earnings call, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson hinted at the possibility of more games in the Jedi franchise after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. He expressed his enthusiasm for the game and its impact on the Star Wars Galaxy, stating that it will likely continue to be a significant part of the franchise for years to come. The release of the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is expected to further boost the franchise’s success.

Considering the immense success of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, even Disney has acknowledged its potential for gaming adaptations and the opportunities it presents.
