‘Stray’: A Sneak Peek Into Labyrinth’s First In-House Game by Publisher

In their recent showcase on June 29, Annapurna Interactive made an exciting announcement about their newest game, “Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth.” The atmospheric teaser trailer unveiled a dark era in the franchise’s fictional history.

Following the trailer, game director Chelsea Hash spoke with IGN to provide further insights into the game. Set in 2033, “Labyrinth” explores the narrative and challenges faced by Blade Runners in a post-Blackout world. The Blackout, caused by two replicant androids, resulted in a city-wide shutdown of electronic devices and the deletion of all stored data.

The trailer hints at the revival of Blade Runners and their role in hunting down rogue robots. Hash expressed her excitement about leading the development of “Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth,” explaining how the opportunity captivated her as a longtime fan of the original film and its sequel, “2049.”

Hash, having worked on notable games like “What Remains of Edith Finch,” “Outer Wilds,” and “Neon White,” brings her expertise to the project. The rest of the team includes talented developers who have contributed to games such as “Hyper Light Drifter,” “Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit,” and “We Are OFK.” Additionally, some team members have collaborated with renowned artists like Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams, Sufjan Stevens, and Sofi Tukker on live shows and installations. This diverse background guarantees a unique visual style for “Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth.”

Hash emphasized the game’s narrative focus and drew inspiration from her previous work on “Edith Finch.” However, projects like “Solar Ash” and their experience in interactive music have instilled a love for incorporating advanced graphics into gameplay. Expect a fusion of various disciplines as expressive tools within the final game.

Although the release date for “Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth” on PC and consoles remains unknown, this marks a significant moment for Annapurna Interactive as it is their first Blade Runner game in over 25 years and their first in-house game.

In other news from the Annapurna Interactive Showcase, “Bounty Star” showcased its post-post-apocalyptic mechs and bluesy soundtrack.
