Gaming fans are counting down to the launch of Starfield on Xbox Series X/S and PC. The brand new Bethesda role-playing game has a September 6 release date for Xbox Game Pass subscribers and owners of the Standard Edition. The game will be available to start playing at 1am BST UK time, which means you don’t have long to wait before you can jump into the action. Indeed, if you want to start playing the moment Starfield goes live, you’ll almost certainly want to pre-load the game ahead of schedule. If you haven’t pre-ordered Starfield and don’t subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, then click the link below for discounted access to Microsoft’s subscription service.

Pre-loading is currently available on Xbox and PC, which means pre-order customers can download the game now.

It’s definitely worth downloading early, because the Starfield file size is absolutely huge.

The game weighs in at around 126GB on Xbox Series X and Series S, compared to around 86GB on Steam.

Even if you have pre-loaded Starfield, Bethesda has released a day-one patch, so you might want to check your version is up to date before playing.

The 15.6GB day-one patch makes a variety of gameplay and visual fixes that will ensure you don’t lose your progression.

This includes a fix for an issue when suspending and resuming the game on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Set in the year 2330, Starfield lets players explore thousands of planets as part of an epic adventure.

You can battle space pirates and monsters using guns and lasers, or use diplomacy to largely bypass combat.

“In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery,” reads the official description.

“The year is 2330. Humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets, and living as a spacefaring people.”
