Spotify Lite for Android launches officially in 36 countries including India

Spotify has been one of the most popular music streaming platforms. Until now, only the regular version of Spotify was available for Android and iOS users, but now, the company has finally launched the Spotify Lite app for Android on PlayStore. This app has been in beta since last year, and finally, the company has released it in 36 countries worldwide.

Lite apps have been popularized by services such as Facebook, Messenger, and YouTube which have tapped demand, particularly in emerging markets where data speeds tend to be inconsistent and lower-end devices are more prevalent.

The Spotify Lite app is just 10MB in size which s small enough to cater to lower-end devices that have limited storage or older phones. As of now, the Lite app is only launched for Android devices running version 4.3 or higher and is open for both paying and non-paying users.  This app has been designed to work even on poor internet connection so that you can enjoy your latest track anywhere in the world.

Spotify claims that 90 percent of the features of the main app is available in Lite, in particular areas around multiple including video and cover artist and are omitted as they are not critical to the core experience.

Among many other countries, the Spotify Lite app has been launched in India. Previously, the company had brought its service to India in February this year. And now, after a couple of months, the Lite app has also been launched in India.

The overall goal here is to expand Spotify’s reach beyond the current user base by focusing on emerging markets or older users. The company currently claims 217 million users, of which 100 million are paying customers.

Currently, the Spotify Lite app has crossed the 1 million download hits on PlayStore just in a day of its actual launch. The number of download hits is expected to cross 10M in coming days.
