Some 2020 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Users Facing Issues with USB 2.0 Compatibility

Apple has recently refreshed its 2020 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. However, some users are experiencing compatibility issues with USB 2.0 accessories, which causes the computer to freeze. As per the reports shared by users, the problem is only with the latest 2020 models of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

As noted by MacRumors, there are a significant number of complaints from users on Reddit and Apple Support Communities. In most cases, USB 2.0 accessories are randomly disconnected

One of the users affected by this issue has said that the connected accessories stop working after using the machine for a while. However, there’s only a temporary solution to get back the machine online – rebooting the Mac.

As of now, it is still unclear what leads to this problem and how it occurs. However, most of the reports mention that USB 2.0 devices become unresponsive when connected to a USB hub. The MacBook works normally with USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 accessories, even through a hub.

Apple is yet to fix this problem, which appears to be a software bug, so owners of the 2020 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air will have to wait until the company releases a new macOS Catalina update.
