For the first time, western audiences will be able to play through the first Fire Emblem game to introduce now-iconic character Marth.
I know what you’re thinking. You saw the word localize about a Nintendo game and thought “oh, maybe it’s finally Mother 3!” Sorry, but that day still hasn’t arrived, although it does feel closer than ever now. The first entry in the Fire Emblem franchise, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light has finally been localized for English speaking audiences 30 years after its original 1990 launch.
Continuing its trend of dropping news and new releases out of nowhere, Nintendo announced that Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light would be available on the Switch on December 4. Players can already pre-order this piece of classic software for just $5.99.
Western audiences were first introduced to the game’s cast of characters with Super Smash Bros. Melee and its inclusion of Marth and Roy, the former of which continues to be played in the game’s competitive scene. Since then, Fire Emblem games have enjoyed success in markets outside of Japan. The latest entry in the franchise, Fire Emblem: Three Houses released to critical acclaim in August 2019.
With its localization, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light will also be receiving some modern quality of life changes. The game will be arriving with save states and a rewind feature that lets players move the game back a set number of turns. Of course, the game will also show players the roots of their favorite features of Fire Emblem titles. The game will come with over 50 playable characters for players to pick from and strategize with. Some select characters can also be approached off the battlefield and chatted up to forge tighter bonds with your compatriots.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is arriving on the Switch on December 4. Pre-orders for the game are live now and cost just $5.99.
