Samsung: Samsung launches SmartThings Find app to locate Galaxy devices

Samsung has unveiled an app to find your Galaxy phone, Watch, tablet or earbuds. Called the SmartThings Find app, it has been rolled out globally on the Galaxy devices.
The company also plans to release a software update for the app on Samsung Galaxy handsets and tablets with Android 8 or later, Samsung Galaxy Watches with Tizen 5.5 or later, and Galaxy Buds Plus and Galaxy Buds Live.
The SmartThings Find app locates the lost or misplaced device with the help of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband technologies. If a device has been offline for 30 minutes, the app will produce a BLE signal that will be received by the connected devices. After that, the device you are searching for sends its location to the Samsung server which in turn sends it to you, thus revealing the location of the device.
As per Samsung, “Once you’re close to your device, you can choose to either have your device “ring” or locate it using the AR-based Search Nearby function,6 which displays color graphics that increase in intensity when you are getting closer to your device.”
All SmartThings Find user data is encrypted and the location of the device will not get revealed to any other person other than the owner, claims the company.
